A multi-tenant attendance management system for universities, polytechnics and colleges. Students check in to each class from their device, and the register keeps itself.

Challenge

Replace paper registers and roll calls with a check-in that cannot be faked by proxy, while measuring every student against their institution’s attendance rule and keeping each institution’s data apart on one shared platform.

Approach

Lecturers open check-in from their timetable and put a QR code on the projector. The code, and the six-digit code under it, changes every 10 seconds and each phone is bound to one student, so a photo sent to an absent friend stops working almost at once. When the class closes, anyone who did not check in is marked absent and attendance rates update. Around that sit timetables built in-app or imported from a spreadsheet, an online excuse flow with chosen reviewers, and alerts that escalate from the student and adviser to the head of department and dean.

Outcome

One platform serves many institutions, each on a private site of its own. Students see how many more classes they can miss before falling below the rule, only eligible students can check in at exams, and heads of department and deans see attendance week by week for the courses they oversee. Every change is recorded in an audit log, and administrators sign in with a two-step code.

Highlights

  • Dynamic QR and six-digit codes, one phone per student, to stop proxy check-ins
  • Exam eligibility measured against each institution’s attendance rule
  • Online excuses with document uploads and chosen reviewers
  • Per-institution data isolation, audit log and two-step admin sign-in
